According to CBS affiliate WTVR, police on the scene, approximately 30 miles south of Richmond, would not say how badly decomposed the body was, but the remains are being taken to the Richmond medical examiner's office for positive identification.

It could take several days before a positive ID is made.

The remains were caught up in a boat slip and were noticed by a passerby at 7:53 p.m.

Police say they are treating it as a homicide until they can prove otherwise.

Dorey was last seen on the VCU campus March 2. His belongings were found on the banks of the James River near Dock Street weeks later.

There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to Jonny Dorey.
