Jonathan Schipper Murder: N.C. Bible College Student Killed in Dorm
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (CBS/WNCT/AP) Jonathan Schipper, a student at a Bible college in North Carolina, was shot and killed in his dorm room, and school officials say another student is responsible.
Mid-Atlantic Christian University says on its website that the sophomore was shot and killed Sunday.
The school's statement said the shooting appeared to be a personal matter between two students. The statement also said the person believed to have shot Schipper surrendered to police. A police dispatcher in Elizabeth City in northeastern North Carolina said no additional information was available Monday night.
Police responded to a report of a shooting on the school's campus around 1 p.m. Sunday. Schipper's body was found in a student dorm.
The school's statement says Schipper was from Havelock, about 140 miles south of the school.
"Our sympathy and love and prayers go out to the families," Clay Perkins, President Mid-Atlantic Christian University told CBS affiliate WNCT. "This is a faith-based institution so we are very much a family and there will be a lot of dealing with that from that perspective."
According to Schipper's Facebook page, he spent his final hours with friends on campus. Comments on the page from friends and family express their grief at the loss.
