Jolie Dishes On Brangelina Romance

The Brangelina love story, says Angelina Jolie, evolved naturally with no cheating, trickery or infidelity.

According to excerpts from her interview with Vogue magazine printed in the New York Post, Jolie never intended to break up Brad Pitt's marriage to Jennifer Aniston, but the chemistry between her and Pitt on the set of their action film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" was intense.

"Brad was a huge surprise to me," she said. "I, like most people, had a very distant impression of him from … the media."

"Because of the film, we ended up being brought together to do all these crazy things, and I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened. I think a few months in I realized, 'God, I can't wait to get to work,' " she said. "Whether it was shooting a scene or arguing about a scene or gun practice or dance class or doing stunts — anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair."

By the end of the shoot, Jolie said she and Pitt were beginning to realize that there was something more between them than just friendship. She said they both understood that becoming romantically involved would take a lot of consideration, especially because Jolie said she understood that Pitt was married to "his best friend, someone he loves and respects."

After the movie wrapped, Jolie said she and Pitt continued to be close friends.

"And it took until, really, the end of the shoot for us, I think, to realize that it might mean something more than we'd earlier allowed ourselves to believe," she said. "And both knowing that the reality of that was a big thing, something that was going to take a lot of serious consideration."

Jolie did not say in the interview whether she and Pitt hooked up while he was married to Aniston but she did say that they formed a strong emotional bond before they became a couple.

"Not as exciting as what a lot of people would like to believe," Jolie said. "We spent a lot of time contemplating and thinking and talking about what we both wanted in life and realized that we wanted very, very similar things."

"And then we just continued to take time. We remained very, very good friends — with this realization — for a long time," she said. "And then life developed in a way where we could be together, where it felt like something we would do, we should do."

She said she met Aniston once, "but it was not a proper meeting."

"We've, like, passed each other and said, 'Hi,' briefly, shook hands. But not a real sit-down-and-talk kind of meeting," Jolie said. "That would be her decision (for a long sit-down), and I would welcome it."

Jolie and Pitt, who attended Monday night's premiere of her new movie, "The Good Shepherd," do not plan to marry, but Jolie told Vogue that the two are committed to raising their children, Maddox, 5, Zahara, almost 2, and Shiloh, 6 months.

"We both have been married before, so it's not marriage that's necessarily kept some people together," she said.

The actress said she doesn't allow many people into her inner circle and doesn't completely trust anyone, even Pitt.

"I trust Brad will never do anything," she said.

"I don't know. I don't trust anybody completely," she added.

Jolie said she's not a "hugger," except, that is, with her kids.

"Oh, I love hugging my kids," she said. "It's a different thing because you feel such a genuine grab from them."
