Jeremy Renner says he suggested killing off Hawkeye after "The Avengers"
"Avengers" star Jeremy Renner had some surprising ideas for what to do with his superhero character after his first outing.
Renner has often joked about how the introduction of his arrow-slinging S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in 2012's "The Avengers" left a lot to be desired, since he was brainwashed by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in the opening. But Renner's character has gone on to have plenty to do in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Captain America: Civil War."
But to hear Renner tell it, he might not have had the chance -- if the Marvel execs had followed the actor's suggestions.
"I was just getting to know who Hawkeye was, and then zap, I go round like a zombie, I'm like Loki's minion," Renner said during a fan event in London recently.
"I'm still not even sure who Hawkeye was at that point, so I'm a little frustrated, because I was so excited to figure out who Hawkeye was."
Thinking it was better to burn out than to fade away, Renner started looking for ways to remove his character from the superhero equation, telling producers, "I'm giving you an option, if you just want to kick me out of this movie. Just, you know, at any given moment, if you wanna kill me off, daddy's gonna be having a heart attack."
