(CBS) Jeff Probst is hoping to outwit, outplay and outlast on daytime television.

The "Survivor" host has inked a deal with CBS Television Distribution to develop a first-run talk show slated to debut in fall 2012.

The one-hour show will cover topics ranging from newsmakers of the day to families and individuals facing challenges.

"I'm fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level," Probst said in a release. "As I continue with 'Survivor,' I am excited to extend my relationship with CBS with this new adventure in the world of daytime."

"Anyone who has seen Jeff on 'Survivor' knows how he connects with people, and has an instinct that makes him a natural and compelling host for daytime. With the same adventure Jeff approaches his own life, the show will take the same path. Whether it's a newsmaker-of-the-day, a celebrity or ordinary folks, Jeff will go further than typical discussion. The show will cover a range of topics from relationships to human interest. And like Jeff, the show will encourage action, change and discovery. We are very fortunate to have him," added Aaron Meyerson, president of Programming and Development for CTD.

Probst has hosted all 22 seasons of "Survivor," and is a regular fill-in for Regis Philbin on "Live with Regis and Kelly."

He's not the only one setting his sights on a new daytime talk show for next fall, The Hollywood Reporter notes. Katie Couric has signed a deal with ABC, Ricki Lake is collaborating with Twentieth TV and Bethenny Frankel is working with Ellen DeGeneres on a Telepictures-produced show.
