Industry Moves: CBS Interactive; Rodale; Birst; Afar

*CBS* Interactive: Another ex-Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) changing course ... Jennifer Vescio started at CBSI this week as VP of business development, a few weeks after leaving as managing director of the Yahoo Publishing Network. She'll oversee biz dev and acquisition strategy for the technology, business and news brands, including CNET, CBS (NYSE: CBS) News and Moneywatch.
Rodale: A slew of promotions at the media company: Mary Murcko is now SVP and publisher of Prevention and Jack Essig is SVP, tacking on the role of publisher of Women's Health to his existing publishing role at Men's Health. Bob Ziltz, previously publisher of Prevention, is leaving the company. Eric Johnson has been promoted to associate VP; he and Christopher Cormier will also serve as associate publishers of Prevention. Both of them will report to Murcko. Diane Malloy and Ronan Gardiner have also been promoted to associate VP/associate publisher of Women's Health and Men's Health, respectively, and will report to Essig.
Birst: John Pierson joined the business solutions provider as VP of sales and marketing. With over 25 years of management and sales experience, Pierson expanded sales at SAP and Hyperion Solutions, among others.
Afar Media: The magazine has made two hires: John Sheehy is now president and publisher, while Claude Girard has been appointed executive director of travel. Previously, Sheehy ran a consulting firm specializing in new magazine and online development. He is also a former COO of Weider Publishing and publishing director at Time Inc. Ventures. Girard joins from Hachette Filpacchi, where he served as VP of integrated sales.
