In divorce papers, Shellie Zimmerman asks judge to name her as George's life insurance beneficiary
(CBS/AP) - George Zimmerman's wife is asking in divorce papers released Friday that he pay for a permanent life insurance policy with her as the beneficiary.
Shellie Zimmerman is seeking an equal distribution of their checking accounts, trusts, and partnerships, and she asked a judge to prevent him from selling any property. According to the Washington Post, she is also seeking sole custody of the couple's two dogs.
The divorce petition says the couple separated a month after Zimmerman was acquitted in July in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The case made international news after it took police several weeks to arrest Zimmerman in the case.
Shellie Zimmerman has also had trouble with the law. On Aug. 28, she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor perjury and was sentenced to one year of probation. She had been accused of lying about the couple's financial situation when she testified at George Zimmerman's bond hearing in June 2012.
George Zimmerman was pulled over for speeding by a Fla. cop three days ago.
