(CBS) Alongside the film premieres and celebrity sightings at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the hunt is on to find the next Stieg Larsson.

Several Scandinavian authors are promoting their work in the French city, as buyers in Cannes try to recreate the success of Larsson's "Millennium" trilogy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR reports that some of the prime candidates - like Norway's Jo Nesbo and Sweden's Camilla Lackberg and Lisa Marklund - were making the rounds at Cannes this week, promoting adaptations of their best-selling thrillers.

"I know everyone's looking for the next Stieg Larsson. Well, I'm available," Lackberg joked to THR, adding that the success of Larsson's books "opened up the door for Scandinavian writers. Suddenly, we're on the map."

Larsson's "Millennium" series has already been adapted for the screen in Sweden - those films have already grossed $175 million worldwide, according to the report. An American adaptation of the trilogy's first book, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, will hit theaters on Dec. 21.
