(CBS) After months of speculation, Howard Stern announced Thursday that he's joining the judges panel of "America's Got Talent."

Stern will replace CNN host Piers Morgan and sit alongside Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne.

"It's offical - Howard just signed on the dotted line - he is now the newest judge on America's Got Talent!," confirmed a tweet from Stern's Sirius XM Twitter feed.

"I'm going to be Piers [Morgan] on steroids," Stern said on his radio show Thursday morning. "It's going to be a no-nonsense judge ... I'm going to go there as a serious judge ... It's gonna be something else ... I am very excited."

The NBC show's production team will abandon its Los Angeles headquarters and move to New York to accommodate Stern, who hosts a daily satellite radio show in Manhattan, reports the Associated Press.

"Howard says he'll start shooting in Feburary and actually be traveling the country to do the audition rounds," according to Stern's Sirius XM Twitter page.

Stern signed a new five-year contract with the satellite radio company a year ago.

"America's Got Talent" will return for a seventh season in summer 2012.
