Hidden app helps with arrest of MacBook thief, victim reunites with his laptop
(CBS) - There's a lot of love between victim of MacBook
theft Joshua Kaufman and Hidden, a software
company that provides recovery assistance of stolen laptops.
Thanks to the investigative app, Kaufman was able to chronicle the man who stole his MacBook right out of his apartment on March 21. Plus, it turned him into an internet star/crusader of sorts.
And thanks to Kaufman, Hidden just got some really good press.
After posting photos and screenshots (the funny kind) on his Tumblr, This Guy Has My MacBook, for two months, the man on Kaufman's blog was arrested and charged with suspicion of possessing stolen property.
"An Oakland police officer just called me to let me know that they arrested the guy in my photos BOOYA! The police used my evidence (email which pointed to a cab service) that he was a driver and tricked him into picking them up. Nice work OPD," Kaufman wrote on his blog last night.
Kaufman then took to Twitter to alert his followers and friends. "This just in: MacBook acquired by the OPD! The officer was so kind on the phone: "It's these kinds of partnerships that make things happen," he tweeted last night.
You'll be happy to hear that this afternoon, Kaufman updated his Foursquare with, "I'm here to pick up my MacBook! (@ Oakland Police Department)." He snapped a photo from their doorstep.
Whew and congrats to Kaufman. We're glad he has been reunited with his beloved MacBook.
