Great Looks For New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is just a few weeks away, but some may not know what to wear to their big bash.

Don't fret, says Glamour magazine's executive fashion editor-at-large Suze Yalof Schwartz. There are great dress ideas to use for the party night, and you don't have to spend big bucks to look like a million dollars.

Schwartz showed examples of both and challenged The Early Show's Rene Syler, Dave Price and Julie Chen to guess which dresses are steals, costing a fraction of the designer prices of the others. Chen was the winner with 2 points. Price came in second with 1 point and Syler third with 0.

Here are the splurges and steals of New Year's dresses:

Most may think of wearing black for New Year's Eve, but Schwartz recommends thinking outside the box. She says to consider dresses with color or made of fun and interesting fabric.

Silk/Satin Champagne Dresses

There is nothing like a champagne dress when you are drinking champagne. Schwartz says silk and satin are sexy, feminine fabrics that no matter the cut, look great. The key for accessories is not to match them to the dress.

Splurge:

Dress: High Quality Silk Dress by Vera Wang, $1,490
Sandal: Stuart Weitzman's Gold Rhinestones, $225
Earrings: Jacobs and Company's 4 carats studs, $ 50,000
Total: $51,715

Steal:
Dress: Lower Grade Silk/Satin Blend Dress by Morgan Gual, $200
Sandal: Carlos' machine-made gold rhinestone thong, $89
Earrings: Cubic Zircona Studs by J.Lo, $15
Total: $304

The Vera Wang dress is more expensive because it's a very high-quality silk. The lining on the Morgan Gual dress is of a lesser grade.

The Cubic zirconium earrings aren't as beautiful as the real diamonds, but Schwartz says, you get what you pay for.

Beaded Dresses

Schwartz says flapper-like flirty dresses were very popular this season. She suggests pairing them with silver pumps to be ready for a night on the town.

To accompany the dress, Schwartz recommends wearing a diamond on the right hand. The trend for single girls has been seen on many celebrities such as Kristin Davis, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Cattrall and Mariah Carey.

Steal:
Shoe: French Connection's machine beading dress, $170
Ring: Nine West's silver pump, $69
Ring: Diamond.com's right hand ring, $195
Total: $434

Splurge:
Dress: Sue Wong's hand-beaded dress, $350
Shoe: Stuart Weitzman's silver pump, $295
Ring: Fortunoff's right hand diamond, $995
Total: $1,640

The Sue Wong dress is hand-beaded while the French Connection dress is machine-made. The price difference in the ring is due to size and quality of the diamonds. Schwartz explains the Fortunoff ring also has more diamonds on it.

Emerald Green Silk/Satin Dresses
Schwartz says these sexy bright and colorful dresses are perfect for any holiday party because the color looks great on any skin tone, and metallic accessories are a great addition to the look.

Splurge:
Dress: BCBG's 100 percent silk dress and lining, $310
Shoe: Anya Hindmarch's leather floral pump, $405
Clutch: Badgley Mischka's silver hand-made accessory, $615
Total: $ 1,330

Steal:
Dress: Moda silk and poly mix dress, from Victoria's Secret, $69
Shoe: Steven pleather floral pumps from Macy's, $100
Clutch: Magid's plastic jeweled clutch, $68
Total: $237

Schwartz explains the BCBG dress and lining are 100 percent silk while the Moda dress is a silk and poly mixed and it is not lined. The prices of the shoes are different because the Anya shoe is leather while the Steven shoe is pleather. Also, the Badgley Mischka bag is hand jeweled while the plastic beaded Magid bag is machine beaded.
