Glenn Close Launches Attack on Navy Video
NEW YORK (CBS) Emmy-winning actress Glenn Close has said she is distraught over the use of her image in one of the profanity and slur-laden videos shown aboard the Navy's USS Enterprise.
In a statement released by her representative, Catherine Olim, Close said, "The cynical, unauthorized use of my image in this video is deeply offensive and insulting, and was the result of a seemingly innocent request made during a visit to an aircraft carrier over four years ago,"
In the video, Close, a five-time Oscar nominee, is dressed in back and wearing what appears to be a USS Enterprise hat. She is seated at a desk with a stuffed bird in a bucket on her lap.
Excerpts from the videos were first published Saturday by The Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia. Since then, Capt. Owen Honors was permanently removed from command because of his role in producing the video as "entertainment" when he was second in command of the nuclear-powered ship.
"I am distraught that my image has been used to perpetuate something that I abhor," Close said in the statement.
