Girl dies after getting hair stuck in ATV engine

MALCOLM, Neb. The family of a 13-year-old Nebraska girl says she has died from injuries suffered after her hair got caught in the engine of an ATV.

The family of Emma Kringle released a statement through Lincoln's Bryan West hospital announcing that she died Monday.

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon near Branched Oak Lake, northwest of Lincoln.

CBS Affiliate KOLN reports that, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department, Kringle was driving a home-made ATV when her long hair got caught in the engine and she was pulled off the vehicle, suffering head injuries.

Authorities said Kringle was wearing a helmet.

She was flown by StarCare to Bryan Health's West Campus in Lincoln.

The Lancaster County Sheriff said she was pronounced brain dead Sunday but was kept on life support until her organs could be donated.

Emma Kringle lived with her family on the southeast side of Lincoln.
