Fort Bragg soldier charged with rape of fellow soldier

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Fayetteville police have charged a Fort Bragg soldier with kidnapping and rape of a soldier assigned to his unit.

A statement from police on Saturday said 26-year-old Johnathan Simpson is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and sexual battery. The statement says the alleged assault occurred on April 25.

The statement said Simpson was taken into custody at his unit on Fort Bragg with the assistance of the Fort Bragg Military Police.

Simpson is jailed on a $250,000 secured bond. It's not known whether he has an attorney.
