First poster from Angelina Jolie's "Maleficent" revealed
Disney has released the first poster of the Angelina Jolie-starring "Maleficent," and it's wickedly awesome.
In the live-action film, based on the classic Disney cartoon "Sleeping Beauty," Jolie, 38, stars as Maleficent herself -- the queen of mean who puts a curse on Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty), played by Elle Fanning. The movie which marks Jolie's first on-screen role in three and a half years, is told from Malificent's perspective.
The new poster, released Tuesday, depicts Jolie wearing the horned headdress that her green-faced character donned in the 1959 animated movie, with piercing green eyes that would frighten any adult, let alone a child.
Here is the official synopsis for the film, which opens May 30: "A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal -- an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom -- and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well."
The first teaser trailer will be released Wednesday, Nov. 13.
