Facebook iPhone app gets 3D Touch upgrade

Facebook's iOS app got an update Monday, and iPhone 6s and 6s Plus users get an added bonus that they might not know about.

The version 41.0 update includes support for the new iPhone models' 3D Touch feature, which allows for secondary app options by pressing harder on the screen. A full press on the Facebook app icon opens three quick action options. You can go straight to writing a new post, taking a new photo or video, or uploading a photo or video already saved on your phone.

3D Touch is one of the standout features of the 6s and 6s Plus. It was first rolled out as Force Touch on the Apple Watch, using force sensors to tell the difference between a tap and a hard press, adding more options beyond what can be done using a tap or a long press.

Other apps that support 3D Touch include Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, Pinterest and Dropbox, as well as a bunch of preinstalled Apple apps.

As iMore pointed out, like with the Facebook app, it's often not clear whether an app has quick actions, but you can test it out by just pressing hard on an icon and seeing if it works. The site also advises that if you think you should be seeing options that aren't popping up, you can launch the app, then go back and try again.
