Expensive Getaway: Man Robs Calif. Bank, Offers $1,000 For A Lift
CAPITOLA, Calif. (CBS/AP) Police say a bank robber forgot to make a getaway plan, so after the heist he offered $1,000 to anyone who'd give him a ride.
Capitola police said a man in his 40s or 50s entered a bank at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday and demanded $20 and $100 bills from the teller.
Police said the man then jumped onto the counter, pushed the teller and grabbed money from the register.
About a block from the bank, witnesses told investigators that a man was offering $1,000 to anyone who would give him a ride to Santa Cruz.
The California Highway Patrol, Santa Cruz police and Capitola police searched for the suspect, but have not found him.
Police believe the robber is a transient, and are looking to interview anyone who may have indeed given him a lift.
