Enzi Will Seek Reelection
Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) announced Saturday he will seek relection this November, ending months of speculation over his future.
The soft-spoken Enzi made the announcement in his hometown of Gillette, Wyo. For months, Enzi had dismissed inquiries about his future from Capitol Hill reporters, saying he would make his announcement directly to the people of Wyoming.
"I'm asking the people of Wyoming to renew my contract," Enzi said at a rally, according to the Gillette News Record.
"Together, I know we can do a lot more."
Retirement rumors swirled after he was passed over for a seat on the coveted Senate Finance Committee, which prompted an outcry from a furious Enzi.
Enzi remains the top Republican on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, where he and committee chairman Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) often work closely on legislation.
Enzi is not expected to face much opposition in the heavily Republican state. To date, he has already raised more money than he had at this point in 2002.
