Edmonds Discusses Murphy's Paternity Suit

Eddie Murphy's new fiancée Tracey Edmonds says she's not bothered by the actor's paternity dispute with Spice Girl Melanie Brown.

"The Melanie Brown situation had absolutely no impact on my relationship with Eddie … I knew about the potential paternity issue. That relationship was long over and so it had absolutely no impact on Eddie and I," she tells JET magazine. "Eddie is a wonderful man. He's a wonderful father and so I've been supportive of him throughout this whole journey."

In June, a publicist for Brown told People magazine that the results of a paternity test proved that Murphy was the father of her 2-month-old daughter. Reps for Murphy have not confirmed that claim.

Edmonds, 40, has two sons ages 10 and 6 from her 13-year marriage to Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Murphy has five children with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell Murphy.

It was announced earlier this week that Murphy popped the question to Edmonds.

OK! magazine reported that Murphy presented Edmonds with a yellow diamond Cartier ring weighing roughly eight karats.

Edmonds tells JET that she and the actor, who met years ago, have connected on several different levels. "He's obviously funny but he's really brilliant to talk to, he's very creative," she tells the magazine.

There is no date for their impending nuptials but she says that things are going well.

"We're very happy and we're going strong," she says.

The new issue of JET magazine is available Aug. 6.
