Duchess Kate immortalized in wax - in four different dresses - at Madame Tussauds

(CBS) The Duchess of Cambridge is getting the royal treatment at Madame Tussauds.

The wax museum is set to unveil models of Kate in four of its locations this April, right before her and Prince William's first wedding anniversary. And, considering the interest in her wardrobe (which often leads to items she wears selling out), it's only fitting that each model will wear a different dress.

The "Kate" at Madame Tussaud's New York location will don the lavender Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the BAFTA Brits to Watch in Los Angeles gala, a rep for the museum said Thursday. The dress was replicated with permission from the design house, which also created the duchess' wedding dress.

In London, she'll stand alongside Prince William in the blue Issa dress she wore when the couple announced their engagement. In Amsterdam, the model will wear the black lace Alice Temperley dress Kate donned for the London premiere of "War Horse." The location in Blackpool, England, will unveil a wax figure wearing the Jenny Packham gown she stepped out in for a London charity dinner that marked her and William's first official engagement as a married couple.

Madame Tussauds London, New York and Amsterdam locations will unveil their wax figures on April 4, while the one in Blackpool will debut on April 18.

Britain's royal family has a long history of being immortalized by the wax museum, dating back to when William IV was monarch and the first Madame Tussauds opened in London in 1835.

The royal couple is also being immortalized in plastic - at a much smaller size - to commemorate their wedding anniversary. Mattel announced this week that it will release William and Kate dolls, dressed in their wedding finery, in April to commemorate the milestone.
