Does Cyrus Want Out Of "Hannah Montana"?
Rumors are flying that teen sensation Miley Cyrus wants to leave her hit TV Show, "Hannah Montana."
Though the 15-year-old superstar and the Disney Channel are trying to shoot the rumors down, E! Online columnist Marc Malkin tells CBS News, "A couple months ago, Miley actually told me she was thinking maybe this could be the last season for 'Hanna Montana.' ... I do think ... Miley is growing out of 'Hanna Montana.' She wants to be known as Miley Cyrus."
A Disney spokesperson says the rumors are "absolutely not true."
And Cyrus tells People.com, "I am fully committed to 'Hannah Montana.' "
"Well," notes Malkin, "guess what? She has a contract! I don't think she CAN leave the show!"
Cyrus is "the biggest teen star in the universe," observes CBS News correspondent Meg Oliver, and a huge money-maker for Disney. "Hannah Montana" is television's most-watched show among six- to eleven-year-olds. On top of all that is the mega-merchandising empire of all things "Hannah Montana."
The show is shooting its third season, and Disney holds an option on a fourth. A movie version of the show is in the can and ready for release next spring.
One possible reason for the speculation, according to Oliver, "Cyrus' pop music career is taking off even faster than her acting. Which will win out? It's a question that has both Disney and Cyrus' fans holding their breath."
