Diana Eckes Canter (PICTURES): High School Teacher Charged with Sex with Student
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (CBS/WDBJ/AP) Diana Eckes Canter, a former Christiansburg High School teacher, is facing charges of having sex with a student.

Christiansburg police say 34-year-old is charged with eight counts of custodial sexual intercourse with a minor.
Police believe none of the alleged incidents occurred on school property and say the incidents happened between Dec. 2008 and Aug. 2009.
The alleged victim is no longer a student in the Christiansburg school system.
Police say Canter resigned her position as an 11th grade English teacher on Tuesday.
According to CBS affiliate WDBJ, Canter posted a $5,000 bond and was released from the Montgomery County Jail Tuesday
According to The Roanoke Times, she faces up to five years in prison on each charge if convicted.
