Dave: 'A Pit Bull With A Notepad'

When it comes to nature's fury, this year's disasters are bad enough. But when Hollywood gets involved, watch out!

Last November, CBS aired "Category 6," in which monster storms obliterate several major cities. This Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT get ready for "Category 7," with the ominous subtitle "The End Of The World." The cast includes Randy Quaid, Shannen Doherty, James Brolin, Robert Wagner and Dave Price — yes, Dave reprises his cameo role from last year.

The Early Show's weatherman and features reporter provides a behind-the-scenes look.

Price plays reporter Max Wilder from WGBC, confronting the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency about "a crucial national issue."

As Wilder, Price asks: "Now, would it be unfair to say that you brought on Dr. Duffy because of your recent divorce, or the fact that you were lovers in college?"

"Gina Gershon is the FEMA director," Price explains. "Her love interest is Cameron Daddo, playing a scientist. While they try to save the world from global catastrophe, their bosses and their families are glued to my question."

And delivering that crucial line took a lot of practice, he says. Looking for feedback on his delivery, he asks the assistant director, David Markowitz: "Now tell me, a lot smoother than I was last year?"

"Smooth is not the word I would use," Markowitz says, pausing for a bit. "Expedient, reporter-like."

In a flashback, Price and Markowitz look at Price's performance as a power plant technician in the previous film. In the scene, Price screams at his co-workers.

"Somehow that scene never made the final cut," Price says. "But it prepared me well for this year's role: a pit bull with a notepad."

It took four hours to shoot the scene, so it was feedback time.

"The more obnoxious I got, the louder I got, the more lines you gave me," Price tells director Dick Lowry.

"I don't recall giving you any extra lines," Lowry says. "In fact, you know what my biggest mistake was? My biggest mistake was giving you the key line in the scene, and being stuck with you doing it!"

It was all in good fun. Price says: "Actually, the cast and crew were great to work with."

"Category 7: The End Of The World," airs Sunday night on CBS and concludes the following Sunday. Without ruining the ending for you, he says, "If the world was wiped out, there wouldn't be a sequel. Sign me up for Category 8!"

Price says that a Category 7 storm keeps the special effects folks in business. It won't happen in real life. "It is a great escapist action flick."
