Maryland Democratic Reps. Elijah Cummings and Donna Edwards have gone from nay to yea on the bailout, they announced Friday morning.
"This legislation is far from perfect--but it is a necessary start," Cummings said.
Edwards said she would support the bill "not because it is perfect, but because I believe we need a starting point."
Both lawmakers said Democratic Presidential Nominee Sen. Barack Obama reached out to them and urged them to support the bill.
Cummings said he also received assurances from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Congress would do more to help struggling homeowners next year.
"She assured me that this is not the end; rather, it is just the beginning," Cummings said
