Crews search for two teenage boys in frozen N.J. lake

Crews planned to resume their search Tuesday morning for two teenage boys who went missing after falling through ice on a New Jersey lake, reports CBS New York station WCBS-TV.

Early reports said both boys are 14 years old.

The crews spent hours Monday night searching the waters of Budd Lake, in Morris County, about 48 miles northwest of New York City, near the Pennsylvania line.

The boys went about 200 yards out onto the lake, walking on ice that appeared to be safe as recently as Sunday, police said.

Rescuers broke up 100 feet of ice Monday night as they tried to find the boys.

Police say they received calls about people in the water screaming for help Monday evening. Two nearby residents who heard the calls got into a boat to try to help.

At first, police said there were four people missing, but only the two teens actually were -- the other two initially reported missing were the residents, who returned safely in the boat.

By Monday night, authorities said the search was considered a recovery effort.
