Connecticut School Shooting: Adam Lanza identified as gunman in Newtown massacre

(CBS/AP) NEWTOWN, Conn. -  CBS News has identified the suspected gunman in Friday's Connecticut school massacre as Adam Lanza.

A law enforcement official tells the Associated Press that the shooter's mother, Nancy Lanza, worked at the school as a teacher and is presumed dead.

The attack at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Conn., left as many as 27 dead, including 18 children.

Police have said the shooter is among the dead. CBS Connecticut reports that it is not known whether the shooter, who reportedly had two handguns, took his own life or was killed by authorities. 

Lanza is reportedly in his early 20's.
