Chris Hemsworth, Cheryl Boone Isaacs to announce Oscar nominations

Chris Hemsworth is getting in on the Oscars action.

Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and the "Thor" actor are slated to announce this year's Academy Award nominations.

Some of the frontrunners include "12 Years A Slave," "Her," "American Hustle," "Gravity" and "Inside Llewyn Davis."

Hemsworth, 30, is best known for portraying the alien superhero in the Marvel films, including 2012's highest grossing film, "The Avengers."

He is currently filming "In The Heart of the Sea," co-starring Cillian Murphy, and due for release in 2015.

Isaacs, a film marketing executive, was elected the Academy's president in May 2013.

This year's Oscars nominees will be announced live on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 5:38 a.m. PT during a special live press conference at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 86th annual Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 2, on ABC.
