Prosecutors say criminal charges will be filed against convicted sex offender John Albert Gardner III, who is suspected of murdering and raping the 17-year-old San Diego County girl.

District attorney's spokesman Paul Levikow says charges against Gardner will be revealed at a Wednesday afternoon arraignment. The 30-year-old Lake Elsinore man was arrested on suspicion of murder and rape.

King failed to return from a run at a San Diego park on Thursday. Authorities believe a body found Tuesday is King's, although the medical examiner's office hasn't yet confirmed the identity.

King was born in suburban San Diego but lived in the Chicago suburb of Naperville with her family for 10 years before the family returned to California.
