Don't hold your breath for a "23 Jump Street."

Despite widespread media reports earlier this month that indicated a sequel to "22 Jump Street" was already in production, franchise star Channing Tatum says that there are actually no definitive plans yet for a follow-up to one of this summer's highest-grossing comedies.

"That's one of those movies that, you know, I think we always knew that we wanted to make a second one. I think we knew what the movie was, but I don't think we know what the third one is yet. So we'll see if it gets materialized," Tatum said in a recent interview with CBS News.

Based on the 1980s TV series starring Johnny Depp, 2012's "21 Jump Street" featured Tatum as the rebellious character Jenko -- a cop, and once-popular high school student, who finds himself on the other end of the social ladder when he goes back to class in an undercover assignment with partner Schmidt (Jonah Hill).

"22 Jump Street" followed a similar formula, but this time in a college setting.

On a budget of $42 million, "21 Jump Street" proved a sleeper hit in theaters, taking in over $201 million at the global box office. The sequel fared even better, grossing over $327 million internationally, against a $50 million budget.

During the end credits of "22 Jump Street," a montage sequence reveals clips from upcoming mock sequels in the franchise, including a "23 Jump Street: Medical School," complete with the tagline, "Turn your head and cough."

While it may be a while before we see Jenko and Schmidt taking out the bad guys once again, Tatum is nonetheless keeping busy with several high-profile upcoming projects, including a "Magic Mike" sequel, the much-buzzed-about "Foxcatcher" and the animated flick "The Book of Life," now playing in theaters.
