Caught on Tape: Skunk Bandits
SARASOTA, Fla. (CBS/AP) A pair of bandits are causing a big stink after the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reported a skunk stolen Wednesday from a pet store.
Surveillance video, provided by the store and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department, shows a woman picking up an 8-week-old skunk and shoving it into her purse.
Authorities say they have arrested two people connected to the theft of the baby skunk from Animal Crackers pet store.
Deputies say they arrested 21-year-old David J. Ruvolo Thursday when he tried to return the skunk to the store. Deputies also picked up 20-year-old Emily J. McCormick while she was at work.
The Sarasota pet store often has interesting creatures for sale. Animals such as prairie dogs and hedgehogs are available and often kept in open bins for people to play with.
McCormick, who deputies say actually stole the skunk, was charged with grand theft, and Ruvolo was charged with accessory to grand theft.
The little stinker was valued at a reasonable $400.
