NEW YORK (CBS/AP) The former principal of a Roman Catholic elementary school who was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 7 and charged with rape and sodomy involving a 15-year-old boy has acknowledged having sex with the teen, according to police.

Allison M. Brant, 31, who resigned from her job as principal of St. Mary of the Woods in Whitesville, Ky. also faces four misdemeanor counts of supplying four teens with alcohol.

Kentucky State Police said the rape and sodomy charges stem from Brant's alleged involvement with the 15-year-old last December and January.

The Rev. Michael Clark, administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Owensboro, told the Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro that the events are "disheartening."

"She has a pretty good track record, so it's surprising," he said.

The diocese was first informed of the allegations and notified authorities the same day, Clark said.

"We are doing everything in our power to uphold the rights of all involved, to assist the victims bringing the allegations forward and to cooperate with the investigation," he told the newspaper.

Brant faces one count of third-degree rape, three counts of third-degree sodomy and four counts of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. The unlawful transaction charges allege she supplied alcohol to four teens at her home on Sept. 4. The sheriff's department says the four teens are 16 to 18 years old.

Arraignment has been postponed for Brant, who is free on $37,000 bond.
