Police tackle protester at heated city council meeting

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- A Northern California city council meeting got heated Wednesday night as police tackled a member of a renters coalition and put at least two people in handcuffs, CBS San Francisco reports.

According to KCBS Radio reporter Chris Filippi, it started after Alameda Renters Coalition members tried to storm the crowded council chambers to talk about the city's housing crisis.

Filippi posted a picture to Twitter after the confrontation.

The coalition was upset that landlords got to the meeting early and took up all the seats in the chambers.

Members of the coalition support a measure to temporarily stop evictions and rent increases.

As of early Thursday morning, the meeting was still going.
