Connecticut police arrest suspect in attempted teen abduction

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport police have arrested a New Haven woman in connection to the attempted abduction of a teenager Oct. 5, reports CBS affiliate WFSB.

Authorities say 38-year-old Towanna Randall offered the teen, who was walking along Boston Avenue, a ride to school. Once inside the Toyota Yaris, she allegedly assaulted the driver, according to the station. Police said the teenager was shaken up, but not seriously injured, according to the station.

The incident was captured on surveillance video and shows the 17-year-old girl jumping from the moving charcoal gray Toyota Corolla that was missing its rear bumper shortly after 7 a.m.

On Thursday, police said they recovered the car in New Haven. On Saturday, the they arrested 38-year-old Randall, the station reported.

Police say Randall, who is facing several charges including third-degree sex assault, unlawful restraint and reckless endangerment, did not know the victim.

Bridgeport Assistant Police Chief James Nardozzi said police were able to make a quick arrest in the case thanks to the numerous tips and around-the-clock efforts of officers, according to the station.

Randall is being held on a $100,000 bond and is due in court on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
