Birthday Party Shooting: Not Guilty Plea for 3 Suspects in Indianapolis Double-Murder
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) A judge has entered not guilty pleas for three men charged with murder in a shooting this month at an Indianapolis birthday cookout that killed two people and injured six others.
Other charges against Damion Martin, Devin Staten and Antwan Williams include attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The men were being held without bond Friday in the Marion County Jail.
Party host 37-year-old Barbara Johnson died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Fifty-four-year-old guest Charlie Mays had just arrived at the gathering Aug. 3 when he was fatally shot in the back. Authorities say a masked man fired an assault-style rifle at the partygoers on the city's west side.
Mays' 92-year-old father says he hopes the three men never get out of jail.
