He has also contributed to CBS News' "60 Minutes II," and to a variety of CBS Sports broadcasts, including the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Olympic Winter Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl and the NCAA Division I basketball tournament.

Prior to joining CBS News, Geist was a columnist for The New York Times, and a reporter and columnist for the Chicago Tribune. He also served as a combat photographer with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1969.

He is the author of seven books, including The New York Times bestselling "Little League Confidential," an account of his experience as a coach of his son's and daughter's Little League baseball teams. Most recently he wrote "Way Off the Road," a compendium of stories from "Sunday Morning." Geist has contributed stories to numerous magazines, including New York, Chicago, Rolling Stone, Forbes, Vogue and Esquire, and to the website The Daily Beast.

Born in Champaign, Ill., Geist was graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in communications, and received a Master's degree in communications from the University of Missouri. Geist lives in New York City with his wife. They have two children.
