Betty White Mania Reaches TV Land with "Hot in Cleveland"
NEW YORK (CBS) Betty White has a new set of gal pals to jest around with. But instead of Miami, the setting is Cleveland, Ohio.
The veteran comedienne co-stars in a new TV Land sitcom called "Hot in Cleveland," which premiered Wednesday night. It revolves around three past-their-prime female friends from Los Angeles whose lives change when their Paris-bound plane abruptly lands in Cleveland.
PICTURES: Betty White Through the YearsIn the pilot episode, actresses Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves play the trio of friends: Melanie (Bertinelli), the hopeless romantic, Victoria (Malick), the aging actress, and Joy (Leeves), the cynical businesswoman.
After they are left stranded in Ohio, the three of them soon find themselves living with White, who plays "Elka," the witty and sharp-tongued caretaker of the home.
The sitcom, which is filmed in front of a live studio audience, showcases the talent of four seasoned actress, each of whom have had successful television careers.
Bertinelli, 50, was on "One Day at a Time," Malick, 59, starred in "Just Shoot Me!" Leeves, 49, was on the NBC hit "Fraiser," and White, 88, famousely played Rose Nylund on "The Golden Girls" and Sue Ann Nivens on "Mary Tyler Moore."
"Hot in Cleveland" airs on Wednesdays on TV Land.
