Bears acquire Brandon Marshall from Miami
(CBS/AP) CHICAGO - The Chicago Bears have acquired Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall from the Miami Dolphins.
There was widespread speculation that the Bears would go after a high-profile free-agent receiver such as Vincent Jackson, but they filled their biggest hole with a blockbuster trade, instead, sending two undisclosed draft picks to Miami. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the picks are a third-rounder in 2012 and a third-rounder in 2013.
The deal announced Tuesday was first reported by Fox Sports.
It's the first big move under new general manager Phil Emery, who replaced the fired Jerry Angelo, and it gives Jay Cutler the go-to receiver he's been seeking since he arrived from the Broncos in a trade three years ago.
Even better, it reunites him with one of his top targets in Denver.
How will this impact the Peyton Manning sweepstakes? It's unclear. But CBSSports.com's Will Brinson notes that this may not mean Miami is giving up on their pursuit of the quarterback.
"Now the Dolphins are situated, if they so choose, to chase Reggie Wayne, who attended college in Miami, and use him to lure Peyton to South Beach," Brinson writes.
Earlier this month, Marshall talked to "CBS This Morning" about being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and how he finished the 2011 season as MVP of the Pro Bowl. (See video at left).
