Awards Honor Daytime Stars

General Hospital was named the favorite show at Friday night's 15th annual Soap Opera Digest Awards.

General Hospital won five other awards, while All My Children gathered four and Port Charles collected two. Days of Our Lives, was another big winner, garnering four awards.

In addition, the late Michael Zaslow, who played separate roles on Guiding Light and One Life to Live, was posthumously honored with the Editor's Award. A soap opera staple for more than 25 years, Zaslow died Dec. 6 of Lou Gehrig's disease at the age of 54.

Readers of Soap Opera Digest selected the winners from a list of nominees compiled by the magazine's editors.

The winners were:

  • Show: General Hospital
  • Lead Actor: Anthony Geary (Luke, General Hospital)
  • Lead Actress: Lynn Herring (Lucy, Port Charles)
  • Hottest Male Star: Steve Burton (Jason, General Hospital)
  • Hottest Female Star: Kristian Alfonso (Hope, Days of Our Lives)
  • Favorite Couple: Stuart and Marian, All My Children (David Canary and Jennifer Bassey)
  • Supporting Actor: Ian Buchanan (James, The Bold and the Beautiful)
  • Supporting Actress: Lauralee Bell (Christine, The Young and the Restless)
  • Younger Lead Actor: Jonathan Jackson (Lucky, General Hospital)
  • Younger Lead Actress: Rebecca Herbst (Liz, General Hospital)
  • Villain: Vincent Irizarry (David, All My Children)
  • Villainess: Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days of Our Lives)
  • Female Newcomer: Patrika Darbo (Nancy, Days of Our Lives)
  • Male Newcomer: Cameron Mathison (Ryan, All My Children)
  • Favorite Veteran: Stuart Damon, (Alan, General Hospital)
  • Favorite Return: Cady McClain (Dixie, All My Children)
  • Female Scene Stealer: Louise Sorel (Vivian, Days of Our Lives)
  • Male Scene Stealer: Kin Shriner (Scott, Port Charles,)
