(CBS News) Each year, the average British person suffers from 124 injury and sickness-related incidents, according to a new survey.

Over a 78-year lifespan, that means those who are living in the United Kingdom can expect 9,672 ailments, which can range from cuts to cramps to surgical procedures.

Benenden Healthcare Society surveyed 2,000 representative British residents to find out how many ill health-related episodes happen to them. They found out that each year the average Brit gets:

  • Six upset stomachs
  • Four cases of heartburn
  • Five cramps
  • Three stubbed toes

Roughly, this means that the average person experiences some sort of malady almost every three days.

"My advice would be to eat healthily and to take regular exercise to stay fit and well," Ali Curtis, outpatient services manager at Benenden Hospital in Kent, England, said in the press release. "Washing hands regularly can help us to avoid picking up some germs, good posture can help us to avoid back problems and regular health checks could catch a problem early. We should all make health a priority."

Curtis advised people to visit their doctor if they feel that they are coming down with something more than a sore throat or upset stomach and if they feel any pain since it could mean that something else is going on.
