Anti-U.S. Jihadi Coalition Collapses In Iraq

The Iraqi militant group, Jaish al-Mujahideen, released an internet statement declaring that it is withdrawing from the jihad and reform front, the Reformation and Jihad Front. "The front does no longer achieve the shari'a objective it was created for," the statement said, "and we decided to preserve our shari'a principles founded on the Quran and the prophet's teachings."

The Reformation and Jihad Front is a Sunni insurgent coalition that came into being on May 2, 2007. It strongly declared its opposition to al Qaeda in Iraq, but pledged to fight the U.S. occupation. The group was composed of five groups, including the Islamic Army in Iraq, the Mujahideen Army, Ansar al Sunnah, Jaish al Furqan and Jaish al Fateheen.

Jaish al Mujahideen is the third group to pullout from the front this year after Jaish al Furqan and Jaish al Fateheen.
