A Supersonic Green Machine that Doesn't Scare Everyone to Death?

NASA/Lockheed Martin Corporation
This very cool rendering of a future aircraft design concept for supersonic flight was released by NASA, which is working with Lockheed Martin Corporation on the project.

So far, nothing solid to report though NASA says that a simulation has demonstrated the "possibility" of achieving overland flight by dramatically lowering the level of sonic booms through the use of an "inverted-V" engine-under wing configuration."

The idea would be to reach supersonic cruise speeds without generating the kind of oud sonic booms that generated so much opposition to the commercial Concorde, which carried transatlantic passengers for a quarter of a century until its 2003 retirement.

This design was presented to the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate in April. The supersonic cruise concept is just one of the designs NASA is funding as conceptualizes the sorts advanced aircraft which enter service in the 2030-2035 timeframe.
