3 dead in murder-suicide near Utah State University campus

LOGAN, Utah.- A 24-year-old man killed a Utah State University student and one other person before committing suicide Monday morning about 80 miles outside of Salt Lake City, according to the Logan City Police Department.

MacKenzie Madden, 19, and Johnathon Jacob Sadler, 25, were shot multiple times and killed inside of an apartment around midnight on Monday, reports the Deseret News.

Police got a phone call reporting another gunshot around 1 AM. Deputies at the scene found the body of Jared Jay Tolman, 23, in an apartment, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two other people were reportedly in the residence and called 911.

Authorities believe Tolman, a member of the Utah Army National Guard at the time of his death, shot and killed Madden and Sadler before taking his own life, says the Deseret News.

Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen reported that it appeared the gunman kicked down the apartment door on Monday and fired at the victims.

The relationship between the shooter and victims has not yet been released.
