Investigator: 2 killed when plane crashes into Fla. homes

PALM SPRINGS, Florida -- A federal investigator says two people were killed when a small plane crashed into a mobile home park in Florida.

Dan Boggs of the National Transportation Safety Board says one of the deaths was the pilot and the other was someone killed on the ground. Boggs says they don't believe there were any passengers on the plane.

The plane went down about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday into a mobile home park of a few dozen homes. Boggs says it's fortunate that the crash was not worse.

Domingo Galicia says his trailer was one of the ones engulfed in flames and his 21-year-old daughter was killed inside the home.

According to CBS Miami, Domingo Galicia said he was home with his 21-year old daughter, who had decided not to go to school Tuesday, when he decided to go outside as she napped. That's when he heard the plane.

"I heard the motor, it sounded really bad and then it came 'boom' and it fell on top of the house," he said.

Surveillance cameras at a nearby business captured video as a plane went down into the Mar-Mak Colony Club mobile home park in suburban Lake Worth.

Seconds after the plane descended, there was an explosion and a fireball.

"We saw flames coming out the windows," said a witness.

Galicia said he ran to the house to try and save his daughter.

"The door exploded open and I was screaming, 'Banny, Banny, Banny.'"

He said the flames and smoke pushed him back and he never heard a sound from his daughter.

"I went outside and I couldn't do anything else," he said.

Galicia said his daughter attended Palm Beach State College and was studying business. She also worked for a marble company.

He added that his other daughter had just picked up his grandchildren from the house 10 minutes before the plane hit.

It's unknown how many people were onboard the plane when it went down. The name of the pilot has not been released.

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Administration told CBS4 they will have investigators on scene first thing Wednesday morning to begin figuring out why this happened.
