$100K reward offered in shooting of NY wedding hall owner

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - It's been a year since the politically-connected owner of a Long Island mansion-turned-wedding palace survived being shot in the head by a masked assailant and now he is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter, reports CBS New York's 1010 WINS.

On Tuesday, Gary Melius released a video to the media announcing the reward and thanking the Suffolk County Police Department for its continued work on the unsolved case, according to the station.

On February 24, 2014, a year ago today, the 70-year-old real estate developer and political donor was shot at point blank range while getting into his car in the parking lot of his Long Island venue - Oheka Castle.

Melius was hospitalized for more than one week. He told 1010 WINS on Tuesday that he is now doing "fine" physically.

No arrests have been made in the case and no suspects have been named.

CBS New York reports that one person of interest early on in the investigation was Melius' own son, Thomas. Gary Melius told Newsday in August of last year that authorities were looking at his son because of problems he has had with drugs, but that they could not connect him to the crime.

Gary Melius told 1010 WINS on Tuesday that he has asked his son directly whether he had any involvement in the shooting.

"I asked him, I asked him very strong and there's nothing," Gary Melius said. "I cooperated with the police in looking at him, whatever they wanted, but there's nothing."
