Patrol: Troopers Save Man Who Fled, Crashed Into River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The State Patrol says two troopers risked their lives last week to save a man who fled police and crashed his truck into a partially-frozen river.

According to the patrol's Facebook page, the incident happened last Thursday. Dispatchers in Faribault County got a 911 call from family members concerned about the man's well-being.

Troopers found the man, who was not identified, driving on Interstate 90 near Wells.

When troopers tried to stop the man, he led them on a short chase.

The man's truck then missed a guardrail and plunged into the Blue Earth River. The water was about five feet deep.

The troopers jumped in after and pulled the man to safety. He was brought to a hospital and now faces DWI charges.
