Minneapolis temporarily closes 20 recreation centers, cancels events amid extreme heat

MINNEAPOLIS – While the Twin Cities are under an excessive heat warning through Wednesday night, Minneapolis residents will have fewer options for getting out in the community.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is temporarily closing 20 rec centers that don't have central air conditioning, and canceling all scheduled activities at each. Twenty-seven rec centers are still open. Click here for a complete list.

All outdoor youth sports are also canceled Wednesday, as well as all scheduled concerts and movies.

The city's wading pools, beaches, water parks and golf courses are still open Wednesday.

Adult sports and programs are still happening, though they are all also subject to cancellation.

All impacted rec centers will reopen on Thursday morning.
