Post Offices Full Of Last-Minute Holiday Shippers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- With the countdown to Christmas dwindling down, Monday is considered the busiest mailing day of the year.

The United States Postal Service estimates 12 million people are dropping off cards and boxes on Monday alone.

Kirsten Olson was loaded down with boxes when she arrived Monday at the downtown Minneapolis post office.

"I've been mailing things for the past few weeks. These are the last few packages to go," Olson said. "They'll be fine. All the things that I shipped have seemed to get to where they're going in about two days. It would be more stressful if I had my kids with me!"

The deadline for standard mail to arrive in time for Christmas has already passed.

Officials with the post office say you can send items first class priority or priority express this week and still have a good chance your items will arrive in time before Christmas Day.
