Would-Be Robbers At Hollywood Motel Caught On Camera

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) – Hollywood police are hoping surveillance video from a robbery attempt at a Comfort Inn motel will help put the two would-be robbers behind bars.

It happened November 14th, around 1:30 a.m., in the lobby of the motel located in the 2500 block of Stirling Road.

On the video, a male with a thin build and wearing a baseball cap can be seen brandishing a small chrome or silver handgun. He then reaches over the counter for the cash register but can't find one.  On the video, he then runs to a man standing in the lobby, grabs a wallet out of his hands and runs out the front door.

Moments later a second armed man, wearing a baseball cap and carrying a black Nike gym bag, can be seen ordering a security guard to get down the ground. When the guard did not move fast enough, the armed man pushes him to the ground.

Witnesses told police he then jumped over the counter and demanded money from the clerk who told him "money is not kept at the front counter." Not believing the clerk, the armed man can been seen on the video flinging open a cabinet drawer before jumping back over the counter.

As he went to run out the front door like his accomplice he ran into a small hitch – the door had automatically locked.   On the video he can be seen spending several seconds trying to get out through the locked door before he runs out a rear exit.

Anyone with information about this robbery attempt is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
