Women Robbed In Lauderdale Church Parking Lot

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami.com) – One down, one to go as Ft. Lauderdale police search for a second man who roughed up a couple of women in a church parking lot last month and stole a gold chain from one of them.

It happened October 23rd in the 2800 block of NW 19th Street. The women, who were 80 and 60 years old, were walking into the church, when they were approached by two men. One of the men, later identified as 20-year old Stephoen Young, knocked the 80-year-old woman to the ground and then grabbed the gold chain around her neck, according to police. When it didn't snap off the woman's neck, Young reportedly dragged her across the parking lot by the chain until it finally broke.

Meanwhile, the second man had grabbed a gold chain which hung around the 60-year-old woman's and easily snapped it off. But things didn't go as planned when it fell down the woman's blouse. At which point the frustrated robber pushed her to the ground, leaving the gold necklace behind.

After only successfully stealing one gold chain, both men took off.

Both women sustained minor injuries from the robbery.

Based upon witness statements and surveillance footage from the church and the food mart across the street, detectives were able to identify Young who lives in Lauderhill. He was arrested on October 27th and charged with two counts of strong armed robbery.

The second suspect was described as being approximately 20 years old, 5' 7" tall and weighed around 130 pounds.

Investigators are asking for the help in identifying the man they say was Young's partner.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Darian Burkholder at (954) 828-5101.
