Woman Charged As Accessory In Davie Girl's Death
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - A second person has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting last month which claimed the life a 9-year old Davie girl.
Sabrina Thompson, 41, of North Lauderdale has been charged with seven counts of being an accessory after the fact of a capital felony.
Thompson was allegedly driving the car when Jody Gordon, 41, reportedly fired several rounds into his ex-girlfriend's mini-van; one of those rounds killing her nine year old daughter.
It happened the morning of October 3rd. Gordon had reportedly gotten into a fight with Shawana Newson the night before and had gone to her apartment complex on Stirling Road to confront her.
Police said as Thompson and Gordon pulled into the parking lot of the Stirling Apartments they spotted Newson in her mini-van. Also inside the van were Newson's five children and friend Deborah Burnett who was sitting in the front passenger seat. As he passed the van, Gordon allegedly opened fire on it. Inside the van, Maiya was struck in the head by one of the bullets. Terrified, Newson drove to a nearby Publix to get help.
Maiya was rushed to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood where she died.
Gordon turned himself in the following Monday to police in Tampa. He's charged with premeditated murder and is being held without bond.
Thompson has been ordered held on nearly $20 thousand bond.
